Who am I?
Hi, I’m Ciaran.
Over the last decade I’ve been a youth worker and educator based in London, working across youth services, schools and prisons in a variety of frontline roles with children and young people. I’m currently Director of Public Affairs and Communications at the Youth Endowment Fund.
Meanwhile, I have written about British society, arts and culture for publications like the Guardian, Pitchfork, British GQ and more. This includes profiling a range of UK music artists over the years, including Dave, Nines, Potter Payper, Blanco, Moses Boyd, Yussef Dayes, Riz Ahmed, Raf Saperra and Panjabi MC.
My debut book, Cut Short: Why We’re Failing Our Youth — and How to Fix It, was published by Penguin (Viking) in 2021. I’m planning my next book: a memoir about uncovering the legacy of Punjab, India and Pakistan’s partition in 1947. Every month I teach Writing for Social Impact at City, University of London.
All City is a space for me to write freely; for readers to access my writing about life and music, and to support me to create original work on my own terms.
